Konnan came out of retirement and looked to end the war against Low Ki and Promociones Dorado on this week’s MLW FUSION. However, the No Disqualification stipulation worked against the legendary luchadore as Low Ki, Salina de la Renta and virtually every member of Promociones Dorado teamed up to make sure Konnan’s return home to Miami was anything but triumphant.
Simon Gotch, who had yet to lose a Simon Gotch Prize Fight Challenge, asked for anyone in the back who was feeling greedy to come on out and challenge for $20,000. He was apparently not expecting Ace Romero, who dominated the increasingly unhinged Gotch and took the 20 large. In addition, we saw Ariel Dominguez’s recent training with Team Filthy pay off in a victory.
No Disqualification World Heavyweight Championship Match
Low Ki defeated Konnan by an official’s stoppage
The bad blood between Konnan and Promociones Dorado runs all the way back to the summer. Konnan exposed the way Salina de la Renta was exploiting the Lucha Bros. with one-sided contracts and eventually ended up representing them. Then, it got personal between Konnan, de la Renta and the World Heavyweight Champion Low Ki.
It became so personal that Low Ki issued a challenge as the titleholder. He challenged the legendary luchadore Konnan to come out of retirement and face him. While Konnan initially turned down the offer, he quickly reconsidered as the stakes continued to be raised by both sides.
This week on MLW FUSION, we finally got to see this highly-anticipated match. Konnan started on fire, taking advantage of the no-disqualification stipulation. He blasted Low Ki with a sock that was loaded with a padlock. If senior official Frank Gastineau hadn’t been pushed down just moments earlier by Low Ki, it might have resulted in a pinfall.
Konnan then went for his signature Tequila Sunrise submission maneuver. But the No DQ stip worked in Low Ki’s favor this time as Ricky Martinez entered the ring with a kick to Konnan to break the hold. When Martinez was finally forced from the ring, de la Renta entered and tried to hit Konnan with her ever-present cane. All the extracurricular activity gave Low Ki enough time to recuperate, as he attacked Konnan while he was distracted by Salina.
Low Ki had a beer bottle handed to him by de la Renta just moments later. He placed it under Konnan’s face and forehead, before stomping the back of his head, grinding broken glass into the challenger’s skin, bloodying him. Martinez then inserted himself back into the match and continued to stomp away on Konnan.
He was then joined by Hijo de LA Park, as de la Renta also got back into the ring. Eventually, there were four members of Promociones Dorado beating on Konnan. Low Ki was using some sort of foreign object handed to him by de la Renta to pound on the kidney area of Konnan. Finally, Gastineau had seen enough. He called for the bell, giving Low Ki the victory by stoppage, feeling that Konnan could no longer defend himself.
As Promociones Dorado looked to continue their all-out assault on Konnan, “Filthy” Tom Lawlor hit the ring. Lawlor came out of nowhere, driving Low Ki, Salina and their henchmen from the ring. As the show went off the air, it became clear this was a coordinated attack as Konnan’s charge Pentagon Jr. was laid out in the back, the apparent victim of a Promociones Dorado attack.

$20,000 Simon Gotch Prize Fight Challenge
Ace Romero defeated Simon Gotch
Gotch has been ranting for a week after losing to “Filthy” Tom Lawlor on last week’s episode. He swore he would make a statement this week. He offered an opportunity at a Simon Gotch Prize Fight Challenge to anyone in the back. All they had to do was last 5 minutes with Gotch and they’d win the cash.
Gotch was not happy to see Ace Romero take him up on it. Not only did Romero survive 5 minutes without losing, he pinned Gotch outright and celebrated, tossing part of the $20,000 prize out to the MLW crowd in attendance.
Gotch tried to take advantage of the 20-count and waste as much time outside the ring as possible. But Romero drug him back in. After one brief offensive burst from Gotch, Romero caught him with a huge body slam and elbow drop for the victory.

Kotto Brazil Attacked, Martinez Suspended
Also on this week’s show, we heard an update on Kotto Brazil’s condition after being attacked by Ricky Martinez in a night club. Brazil is on the road to recovery from a couple surgeries. Meanwhile, a Promociones Dorado video of Martinez partying right after the incident shows what the organization’s “Sicario” is all about. League officials have suspended Martinez indefinitely for his actions.
“I’m with Promociones Dorado, Martinez said. “How long do you think I’m going to be suspended?”
Ariel Dominguez defeated Andrew Everett
Newly-affiliated with Team Filthy, young Ariel Dominguez picked up the most victory of his nascent career.
Everett, who had a distinct height and weight advantage on the diminutive Dominguez, looked to intimidate and make fun of the small stature of his opponent. He was constantly calling himself “Andrew the Giant” during the match.
Everett had the upper hand in the early-going and tried to continue on the “Giant” theme with a chokeslam. But Dominguez escaped, utilized a great roll-through, German suplex combination to score score a near-fall and was able to keep the momentum going for much of the match. Dominguez eventually picked up the biggest victory of his career when Everett went for a shooting star press, but found only Ariel’s knees and a roll-up.
