Promociones Dorado hit with fines and possible sanctions following Title Fight

The last episode of FUSION for 2018 ended on a shocking and controversial note with Low Ki repeatedly jabbing a foreign object believed to be an improvised weapon into the kidney area of Konnan.

In a night that was to honor and celebrate Konnan’s Miami homecoming, it would forever be remembered as a shocking and violent evening. With the bout ending via referee stoppage, the no disqualification match broke down with Hijo de LA Park and Ricky Martinez joining in on an attack focused on Konnan’s kidneys.

The bout was declared officially over with senior referee Frank Gastineau conceding that Konnan could no longer defend himself and thus could not continue. With the bout officially awarded to Low Ki, Promociones Dorado escalated their attack on Konnan with a spike-like weapon.

“That stuff they pulled has no place in MLW or this sport,” said MLW CEO Court Bauer. “We’re fining them. All of them. Maybe a lot more than just fines, too. I’m not happy with any of these guys. Low Ki and Promociones Dorado tested the latitude afforded to a participant in a no disqualification match. You use a weapon like that and then what’s next? A chainsaw? I’m coming down hard on Promociones this time.”

The league has reportedly fined Promociones Dorado the following amounts:
•Low Ki: $15,000
•Salina de la Renta: $15,000
•Ricky Martinez: $7,500
•Hijo de LA Park: $7,500

Salina de la Renta could face having her promoters license officially suspended. League officials debated through the holiday weekend whether to suspend the World Heavyweight Champion and possibly strip him of the championship but declined.

Promociones Dorado have yet to make a statement about the league’s actions but one is anticipated soon.

The title fight and its violent ending has become a hot topic in the sports world with media from around the world covering the story including Mexico’s Récord, a national daily newspaper.
