A vicious attack by Contra Unit was the biggest news coming out of this week’s MLW FUSION. Simon Gotch and his new group viciously attacked Ace Romero and left him bloody in the ring. In other action, Ace Austin punched his ticket to Battle Riot II and Alex Hammerstone was impressive yet again.

Ace Romero took $20,000 off Simon Gotch recently in a Simon Gotch Prize
Fight Challenge. Gotch asked for a rematch and as soon as things didn’t seem to
be going his way, his new friends got involved in the match.
While Gotch had his moments in the early going, the much larger Romero was using his size to his advantage. As Romero picked Gotch up in a fireman’s carry, looking for a possible Samoan Drop, Josef Samael and Jacob Fatu hit the ring and attacked Romero. Contra Unit’s interference in the match caused Gotch to be disqualified, giving Romero the victory.
But Contra Unit didn’t just interfere in the match …
Romero Bloodied,
Beaten
Samael, Fatu and Gotch launched an all-out assault on Romero. Eventually,
Samael pulled a metal spike of some sort from his knee pad and repeatedly
thrust it into the head of Romero. The violent attack bloodied Romero and left
him laying in the middle of the ring.
Eventually, with numerous referees and League officials attempting to stop the assault, Contra Unit ended the attack when Gotch placed two coins over Romero’s eyes and laid the Contra flag over him, before leaving the arena.

Mance Warner Pissed Off
Salina de la Renta
Backstage, Mance Warner was sharing a light beer – as he is wont to do – with a
buddy. He was gesturing with his beer, when de la Renta came up behind him and
the beer spilled on the impresaria of Promociones Dorado, who was incensed.
Later in the show, Hijo de LA Park confronted Warner about the incident and the two brawled down a hallway and out of sight of our cameras. When our cameras caught up to Hijo, he looked to be a bit the worse for wear and explained what happened to de la Renta, who took it out on her Louis Vuitton bag. It looks like Ol’ Mancer has found himself on the wrong side of de la Renta and Promociones Dorado.
Battle Riot II Qualifying Match
Ace Austin defeated DJZ
With entry to Battle Riot II on the line, Ace Austin picked up a victory over
DJZ to punch his ticket to NYC on April 5.
The two middleweights showed off plenty of athletic maneuvers and some hard-hitting action outside the ring. DJZ looked like he had the momentum in his favor. But Austin hit one of his favorite maneuvers – The Fold – virtually out of nowhere to secure the victory and the Battle Riot II entry.
“Filthy” Tom Lawlor
Update
Following Lawlor’s victory in a steel cage match over Low Ki on last week’s
Intimidation Games live special, he was brutally assaulted by Contra Unit. This
week, we got an update on his condition from MLW Doctor Nelson Sweglar.
In a strange, rambling report, the doctor wasn’t very forthcoming at first, but then rattled off a list of serious sounding injuries. He was very non-committal on when we could see Lawlor back in action. At this point, it looks like more information will be needed in the coming weeks.
Alexander Hammerstone
defeated Isaiah Velasquez
Alex Hammerstone continued to show off impressive power and ability since
he joined the ranks of MLW. This time, Hammerstone was matched up with Isaiah
Velasquez. While Velasquez may have had a bit of a quickness advantage, he
couldn’t handle the sheer strength of Hammerstone.
Hammerstone nailed a massive powerbomb on the ring apron, before drawing gasps from the crowd with a suplex off the middle turnbuckle. If that wasn’t enough, Hammerstone followed that high-impact maneuver with the Nightmare Pendulum to pick up the victory.
