Fusion Recap – May 18, 2019

The National Openweight Championship Finals are set, with Brian Pillman Jr. advancing in the semifinals. Mance Warner and Sami Callihan are still at war with Promociones Dorado and we had an incredible matchup on FUSION between Japanese superstar Minoru Tanaka and Mexican superstar Daga.

National Openweight Championship Semifinal
Brian Pillman defeated Rich Swann

Rich Swann came to the ring with his ever-present compadre Myron Reed. Both were still protesting their perceived mistreatment by MLW officials, in particular Doug Markham, who was assigned this bout.

Reed interfered in the match numerous times, but an attempt to interfere helped lead to Swann’s downfall. Swann believed he had Pillman pinned, but Markham counted a near fall and a kickout at 2. Swann put his hands on Markham, who had none of it and shoved him into the corner. Moments later, Pillman ran Swann into Reed, who was on the ring apron. Pillman then rolled Swann up and was able to score the three-count.

Pillman will now face Alexander Hammerstone June 1 in Milwaukee at Fury Road for the National Openweight Championship.

Mance Warner & Sami Callihan defeated Hijo de LA Park & Ricky Martinez

The war between Salina de la Renta & Promciones Dorado and Mance Warner & Sami Callihan is not over. Callihan and Warner won a battle in the ring on FUSION, then lost a battle backstage.

Callihan was able to secure the pinfall in a hard-hitting, brutal matchup, when he nailed Martinez with a piledriver.

But the four men battled into the backstage area. That’s where Salina and LA Park were waiting. LA Park joined the brawl in the hall backstage and turned the tables in Promociones Dorado’s favor. Callihan and Warner were left laying with de la Renta standing over top of them. This situation is clearly not over …

Minoru Tanaka defeated Daga

In an international dream match, Japanese superstar Minoru Tanaka faced off with Mexican superstar Daga. The highly-technical matchup ended when Daga missed when attempting to strike Tanaka was his left hand.

Tanaka was able to secure the arm, roll him into a cross arm breaker. Tanaka secured the legs of Daga and was able to score the pinfall.

Next week on FUSION

The World Heavyweight Championship is on the line when “Filthy” Tom Lawlor defends against Germany’s top-ranked wrestler, Avalanche Robert Dreissker.

In addition, CONTRA Unit will be in action. Jacob Jatu and Josef Samael will face Ace Romero and Barrington Hughes. Both superheavyweights have had their share of issues with CONTRA. Can the two behemoths stop the Global Dealers in Violence?

Tune in next week!
