There’s outrage on the island of Puerto Rico.
The Caribbean Heavyweight Championship has been stolen.
Following the shocking events on Fusion 2 weeks ago (WATCH) where Richard Holliday stole Savio Vega’s Caribbean Championship, the San Juan Star, El Vocero and Claridad island newspapers have all chastised Holliday’s actions.
Richard Holliday’s lawyer/father has issued a statement: “I will make this statement once and I will make it ONLY in English. Possession is nine-tenths of the law. Possession is nine-tenths of the law is a legal definition that ownership is easier to maintain if one has possession of something, or difficult to enforce if one does not. Henceforth, my champion/son is the undisputed Caribbean Heavyweight Champion.”
Richard Holliday added a bold statement of his own,”There is no controversy. I am the champion and I am going to be the greatest Caribbean Champion in history. I will defend the title throughout the Caribbean but only on islands of the highest status, like St. Barth’s or Bermuda.”
Fans in Puerto Rico have vowed retribution if the belt isn’t returned to the champion, “Tio” Savio Vega.
The belt has immense historic significance to Puerto Ricans. The championship’s lineage dates back decades and has been won by the likes of Pedro Morales, Gilberto “Gypsy Joe” Meléndez, Abdullah the Butcher, Gorilla Monsoon and of course, its current title holder Savio Vega.
Holliday defeated Savio Vega in Dallas a few weeks ago on FUSION. Following the match, Holliday quickly grabbed the belt and along with MJF walked off having stolen the historic title.
MLW and the Sports Ministry of Puerto Rico recognize Savio Vega as the rightful Caribbean Heavyweight Champion.
