2021 Opera Cup takes shape

The road to next year’s cup begins

While this year’s Opera Cup has yet to conclude, MLW.com can confirm league officials are already planning the 2021 edition.

MLW is in talks with several cities about hosting the historic tournament, which dates back to the turn of the 20th century. Some of the cities on the short list include: Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, New York, Baltimore and Chicago.

Another twist the league is exploring is possibly doing a round robin tournament. Over the course of the tournament’s history, it has varied from a single elimination to the all-play-all round robin.

Another popular add-on to the 2020 tournament has been the global scale of the Opera Cup. League officials are in active discussions with international promoters about participation in future cups, continuing its worldly feel of competition in 2021 and perhaps beyond.
