One Shot Recap: Kojima Returns, Kane Clashes With Cardona In NYC

MLW One Shot returns under the promotional watch of Mister Saint Laurent as Matt Cardona challenges Alex Kane for the World Title!

MLW/WTF One Shot is here and “Legitimate Promoter” MSL has full control over the show so the Melrose Ballroom in NYC is all decked out in World Titan Federation fashion. MSL starts the show off and surprisingly enough, delivers on the rendition of “America The Beautiful” with a stellar performance by American Idol’s Alyssa Wray!

Now it’s off to the card and we kick it off with TItle vs. Title!

MATCH 1
MLW World Middleweight Championship & CMLL World Historic Welterweight Championship
Rocky Romero (c) (with Salina de la Renta) vs. Mascara Dorada (c)

Rocky starts the fight off controlling and setting the pace, but Dorada catches Rocky, ironically in a picture Romero special! Then it’s off to the races for Dorada who utilizes his speed and athleticism to outwit the World Middleweight Champ.

However, Rocky is a part of Promociones Dorado, so you can always plan for a plan in place. Earlier in the match, Romero untied Dorada’s mask and sure enough, picked the right moment to rip it off! Dorada had no choice but to cover up and Rocky rolls him up for the 1-2-3!

There’s something fishy afoot as we see an ad for the World Titan Federation Hotline. Indeed – WTF?

MATCH 2
TJPW Princess of Princess Championship
Delmi Exo vs. Miyu Yamashita (c)

It’s a big fight feel as “The Ace” of TJPW is ready to roll in NYC in her MLW debut. She literally shows that too as she gets technical with Delmi as the two Featherweights do some stellar mat wrestling.

Delmi shows that she was ready for the stiff competition as she hit an amazing electric chair drop suplex that made everyone think (even herself) that she had the title in hand, but Yamashita kicked out!

Miyu showed her diversity in her arsenal as she used her striking game to seal the deal. A massive kick to the skull was good enough to do it. She gets the pinfall win on The God Queen.

New “WTF Federette” Zayda is backstage and makes a pretty ridiculous statement, saying she was the most downloaded celebrity in 2023. She thinks she’s deserving a shot at Janai Kai’s Featherweight Championship.

MATCH 3
Tom Lawlor vs. Satoshi Kojima

This match is oozing with MLW history as former MLW World Champion and current WTF Superstar Tom Lawlor takes on the first ever MLW World Champion in Kojima, who makes his return to the league in two decades! “Bread” chants echo throughout the Melrose Ballroom as MLW fans welcome Kojima back to the league.

Much like Romero, Lawlor tries to set the pace and attempts to chop the veteran Kojima down to size, but power is exuded and Satoshi shoulder tackles Filthy Tom down. Kojima takes some time to flex some pecs. Lawlor soon gets Kojima down and does the same. “Sports entertainment” by the WTF Superstar.

However, it’s out of nowhere does Kojima catch Lawlor with a standing lariat before going full-force and nailing Tom down with his signature running lariat, the same one where he retained MLW World gold so often many years ago.

He gets the win here and literal bread is thrown in the ring!

WINNER: Satoshi Kojima

Out comes MSL once more, not to promote wrestling, however – but bodybuilding (“WTF” again!) He is joined by Zayda who is designated as the judge and the first contestant is Midas Black of Mane Event. MSL is quick to disparage his muscularity. Next out is BOMAYE’s Mr. Thomas who grabs hold of the mic and questions why “Florida Fat Joe” is in charge of a bodybuilding competition. Thomas does a few poses, but Zayda claims he stinks.

And here is where the fix is in – out comes Alex Hammerstone, labeled as a “shock last minute entry.” Hammerstone, a legitimate bodybuilding competitor flexes and Zayda is quick to name him the victor. Hammer gets on the mic for his “unexpected” speech and disparages the NYC fans.

He says he’s the best champion MLW has ever had as he’s beaten everybody, including Fatu twice. That brings out the Samoan Werewolf himself as he completely clears the ring to a huge reaction from NYC!

MATCH 3
MLW National Openweight Championship
Jimmy Lloyd vs. Rickey Shane Page (c)

Before RSP duked it out with Lloyd, Akira came out to seek retribution against his now former tag partner! Eventually, order is restored (for a bit) but then it obviously gets chaotic as RSP and Lloyd get down to business, which is violence.

RSP has two chairs laid out in the middle of the ring and goes to land on Lloyd but Jimmy moves. However, RSP shows his strong threshold for pain to do his patented standing gordbuster only to seamlessly climb up top and nail a swanton bomb that would make a Hardy boy jealous!

Lloyd shows his toughness too as a door gets propped up on chairs, he has some audibly choice words for RSP before hitting him with a Death Valley Driver through the door. RSP kicks out!

Soon after RSP hits the Raven Effect DDT to get the pinfall!

MATCH 4
MLW World Featherweight Championship
Maki Itoh vs. Janai Kai (c) (with Salina de la Renta)

Itoh is clearly a fan favorite as she makes her MLW debut and sings before the bell dings. Janai Kai, on the other hand, is clearly respected for her stone cold mentality. This should be a good one and is.

Itoh gives Kai her toughest competition to date in MLW and Janai literally has a difficult time finding her footing against the “Fired Idol.” Itoh hits a beautiful cross body from up top to almost take the champ out.

However Kai retains via submission once the Kick Demon locked in the “Demon Clutch.”

It’s main event time.

MAIN EVENT
MLW World Heavyweight Championship
Matt Cardona (with Steph Delander) vs. Alex Kane (c) (with Mr. Thomas & BOMAYE Fight Club)

Matt and Steph come out wearing Ribera jackets and Kane comes out with the BOMAYE Fight Club in tow. Kane grabs hold of the mic and tells Cardona that his daddy is going to wish “he wrapped it up.”

Cardona is indeed quick to realize that he’s in way over his head and attempts to make haste, but the whole BOMAYE is blocking the way.

Kane controls a great deal of this fight, both on the outside and in between the ropes, but Steph becomes a major factor. She even attempts to crack Kane with a steel chair, but who comes in but Masked Good Brother #3 (not Mance Warner). He grabs hold of the chair, plants a smooch on her and it’s not long before Kane plants a spear on her!

Kane then hits a falcon arrow for a near fall, and swiftly turns it into his Blackout Chokehold and Cardona is forced to tap!

WINNER and STILL MLW Heavyweight Champion: Alex Kane

Post-fight, Kane gets on the mic as Cardona is literally carried off by the BOMAYE Fight Club! He wants a new challenger for Kings Of Colosseum! As and ye shall receive as the lights go out and when they come back on, who is sauntering in the ring but RICHARD HOLLIDAY.

He stares down Kane before MSL comes down from commentary with a contract in hand and a WTF hat too. He is quick to offer Holliday both. Richard takes the hat and the contract and stares at it before he puts the cap on and raises the contract. MSL is elated as Kane has more to say and One Shot ends! The season finale of MLW Fusion is this Thursday!
