A dynamic wrestler with uncanny footwork, high-level submission technique and an unrelenting aerial arsenal, the former World Heavyweight Champion Shane Strickland can shut down an opponent fast while thrilling crowds along the way.
His nickname “Swerve” stands for confidence – just don’t interpret that as meaning Shane “Swerve” Strickland is your cliché, arrogant elite athlete. That assumption couldn’t be further from the truth. Scouts will tell you Strickland is, in fact, a top-level athlete. He is also one of the most humble, yet hungry, wrestlers in the sport today.
Growing up in a military family, Strickland spent his early years in Germany, the son of a military man.
Strickland himself would go on to serve in the military while sneaking in pro wrestling training during his downtime.
While in the military, Strickland learned “military combative” techniques, a combination of close quarters strikes, submissions and jiu jitsu. This training would come in handy as Strickland transitioned to pro wrestling where he often employs rapid strikes and submissions to secure victory.
A single father with aspirations to be the best of the best, Strickland’s daughters inspire him to keep working hard, so he can provide a better life for them.
