Battle Riot III Recap: Who Receives A World Title Shot?

MLW.com

MLW is back with Battle Riot III (presented by www.newlawoffice.com) and it’s all going down in Philadelphia, PA at the historic 2300 Arena.

Before the big bout commences however, we see “El Jefe” Cesar Duran saunter out into the venue well known for its violence.

“I’ve been told that this place is historic,” he said. “I’ve been told that the people in this city, understand Lucha Libre,” which got a major reaction from the Philly faithful, but then he says he thinks it’s all a bunch of B.S.

“My reputation for super luchas and violence is second to none!”

“I’ve introduced you to the best luchadores in the sport today and I’ve even created the most imagitive matches of the century.

That’s when Duran dropped the big news:

“I’ve reached an agreement with MLW that my company, Azteca Underground, yes, will promote fights for MLW. Yes! But wait, there is more,” he said. “I’ve made a deal with Court Bauer, you’re matchmaker in MLW!”

Sure enough, the new matchmaker has an idea, but is then interrupted by Jordan Oliver and Myron Reed of Injustice.

Duran tells them this better be good. They have a good reason: they want a shot at the tag team titles. They want Los Parks and Reed knows Duran can make it happen. Suddenly, the MLW Draft clock ticks down and we hear familiar gat blasts: out comes Konnan and he’s got a new crew! It’s Rivera, Slice Boogie and Dr. Julius Smokes. Konnan says he’s going to take this to the next level.

After Konnan introduces the crew, he says why don’t they do his crew vs. Los Parks tonight? Right here, right now. Duran is always open to business, but he’s a busy man. Oliver puts a stop to that. He calls Konnan a corny clout chasing clown. Suddenly the two groups brawl it out and the numbers game comes into play as Rivera and Slice Boogie take Reed and Oliver down! Reed however shows why he’s Middleweight Champion with a swanton dive onto the outside! Officials have to break the battle apart.

Alicia Atout is standing by the Battle Riot tumbler as “The Judge” EJ Nduka steps into picture to pick his entry number. Before that gets revealed, however, CONTRA Unit cuts the feed. Josef Samael stands with Daivari, Mads Krugger, Ikuro Kwan and Simon Gotch stand by. They make it clear that they will dominate the Battle Riot.

Get ready for a new mini series coming next month called Fusion Alpha!

Atout is back at the tumbler with Tom Lawlor and Kevin Ku. The first ever Battle Riot winner tells Alicia that there’s a strategy to his spins. Ku draws first and he’s pretty content with his pick. Lawlor is up next. He picks out his egg, looks at it, and considers it a “practice round.” Alicia makes it clear there is no such thing, but thankfully before Lawlor can bend the rules, “The Judge” comes back in to scare off Team Filthy.

We go back to ringside and the familiar voice of Stephen DeAngelis introduces us to Battle Riot III!

MLW BATTLE RIOT III

The rules:

  • No disqualifications.
  • Weapons ARE permitted.
  • A new man enters every 60 seconds.
  • Elimination is by pinfall, submission or throwing a wrestler over the top rope.
  • Winner gets a title shot anytime, anywhere.

Serendipity has come into play at entry number one because this individual has a lot to prove: Davey Richards is the first draw. The hunt begins for “The American Wolf.”

The Philadelphia crowd gives Davey a very warm welcome back to the squared circle. Number two is a name we’ve been accustomed to thus far, “Filthy” Tom Lawlor.

Tom and Davey lock it up and then trade punches. Lawlor goes for a rear naked choke, but Richards turns it to an ankle lock, but Lawlor legs him off only to soon be grappled in a grapevine STF. Lawlor resorts to biting the American Wolf!

Entry number three is TJP and as Richards has another ankle lock on Lawlor, TJP cinches in the octopus stretch. That saves Lawlor and the two gang up on Davey.

Number four is another MLW debutee: The Pittsburgh prodigy, Lee Moriarty!

He immediately goes into his patented TAIGA STYLE to even the odds for he and Davey. Moriarty locks in his Joint Custody armbar as Davey has an ankle lock on TJP. Richards and Lee begin to shove one another, but the two men find themselves on the same page as they focus on attacking Tom and TJP.

Next we hear the riffs that has become so familiar with the name “Von Erich,” but it’s “Rip Von Erich” aka Kit Osbourne.

Who comes out next, but America Top Team’s King Mo as he and “Rip” take out Lee and isolate Davey!

There’s a lot of submission expertise being exuded in the ring.

The arena thunders with force as Calvin Tankman is the next to enter, and boy, does he make everyone pay.

Entry eight is the king of “strange style,” Azteca Underground’s Arez.

He dolls out four superkicks before planting Moriarty with a modified falcon arrow! Richards gets wise and extends the handshake to Arez before turning it into a backslide pin attempt! Only good for two, however.

Next up is the ever-familiar face of MLW, Gringo Loco.

Philly gives him a huge reception as he displays speed and strength. He gorilla presses TJP for a picture perfect moonsault.

Number 10 is the unorthodox Zenshi and the Chilean star shows that prowess, even against the massive Tankman.

Zenshi gets sent into the timekeeper’s table by Tank, but thankfully his feet don’t hit the floor.

Aramis enters at 11 and the lucha libre is on full display. He turns Loco’s electric chair attempt into a gorgeous headscissors as he and Arez’s star aligns for some teamwork!

In comes Alex Kane making his MLW debut.

“The Suplex Assassin” indeed lives up to his name as he takes out everyone except his ally King Mo and adversary, Tankman. Someway, somehow, Kane makes a German suplex look effortless against Heavyweight Hustle!

Lucky 13 is Middleweight Champion, Myron Reed and Moriarty holds on for dear life against a great deal of competitors.

Zenshi gets thrown out into the barricade, but once more his feet don’t hit the floor.

Next up is a Singapore swinging Savio Vega. The legend is back after having that frightening jungle fight against King Muertes!

Vega cracks the people with the Kendo and Philly chants “Savio” as Jordan Oliver enters at 15 and thankfully so because Reed gets vaulted over by Zenshi and Jordan catches him after delivering a bit of offense.

The big Beastman enters next and it doesn’t take long for him and Tankman to square off.

Slice Boogie and Rivera enter, but they don’t come alone. The two men enter with Dr. Julius Smokes and a shopping cart complete with weaponry.

Sure enough, the two set their sights on Injustice and Boogie spinebusters Reed through a ring board!

Number 19 is Matt Cross who we last haven’t seen since 2004!

As he enters, Rivera cracks Savio with the Kendo stick. He and Slice pin his shoulders to the mat to make the first elimination!

ELIMINATED VIA PINFALL: Savio Vega

Number 20 is Bu Ku Dao and he wastes no time in going after TJP! He shoots TJP hard into the barricade!

Right after Tom Lawlor gets knocked out of the ring by Davey Richards!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Tom Lawlor

Marshall Von Erich comes out next, but that’s all she wrote for Aramis as Slice Boogie sends him careening to the floor!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Aramis

Rip Von Erich leaps right into an Iron Claw and Marshall slams him down for the 1-2-3!

ELIMINATED VIA PINFALL: “Rip Von Erich”

Beastman teams with Lee Moriarty in order to try and take out Marshall, but all action stops when EJ Nduka comes in!

He immediately lariats out Beastman!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Beastman

EJ spears the skeleton off Gringo Loco before tossing him!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Gringo Loco

A relic from the past Kim Chee comes out at #23 as The Judge takes out Zenshi, Alex Kane and King Mo! “The Judge” then makes sure Kim Chee follows suit.

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Zenshi

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Alex Kane

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: King Mo

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Kim Chee

It’s not long before EJ sends Arez out of contention too!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Arez

Number 24 is surprise entrant, “Outlandish” Zicky Dice who comes out to a big brotherly love reaction!

As he walks down the entryway, TJP eliminated Dao who just took a giant spinebuster from Nduka!

ELIMINATED VIA PINFALL: Bu Ku Dao

EJ makes certain his court is in order by tossing TJP in retaliation!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: TJP

Dice does get “Outlandish” as he pulls a long ribbon from his mouth, only to take a Claw from Marshall!

Kevin Ku comes out at #25 and delivers a savate kick followed by some harsh shots to Zicky.

EJ is cornered and Matt Cross looks to make the most of it, but Nduka swiftly sends him over the top!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Matt Cross

26 is the newly signed KC Navarro and he immediately makes an impact with a DDT!

Tankman back elbows Moriarty out of contention!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Lee Moriarty

27 is Lance Anoa’i. As he enters, Richards locks in an ankle lock on Kevin Ku, forcing him to submit!

ELIMINATED VIA SUBMISSION: Kevin Ku

As all this is going on immense power is shown in the ring when Nduka has Tankman over his shoulders sending him to the outside, but Tank pulls “The Judge” with him! Both the superheavyweights have been eliminated!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Calvin Tankman

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: EJ Nduka

Injustice get their justice on LAX as they both cause Boogie and Rivera to roll over the top rope!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Slice Boogie

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Rivera

Not so fast as LAX pulls both Reed and Oliver off the apron, eliminating Injustice.

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Myron Reed

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Jordan Oliver

28 signifies “The Chairman,” but is it? It sure doesn’t seem like “The Destroyer.” Marshall immediately locks in The Claw and rips off the mask to reveal Tom Lawlor! He lariats the cheat out!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: “LA ParK” Lawlor

We see the first CONTRA infidel enter at #29 with Simon Gotch.

Davey Richards takes a sharp kick from Anoa’i and then gets clotheslined out of contention. The #1 entry is out.

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Davey Richards

CONTRA gets more men as Daivari enters at #30.

He drags Navarro by the CONTRA flag and hangs him over the top rope with it! Thankfully, Navaroo escapes.

31 gets extreme as Philadelphia’s own, Blue Meanie makes his way to the ring! “BWO” chants echo the 2300!

CONTRA gangs up on “Da Blue Guy” as low and behold, another CONTRA member enters: Ikuro Kwon is in at #32.

Meanie tries to eliminate Kwon, but gets cheap shotted. This allows Kwan to pin Zicky Dice.

ELIMINATED VIA PINFALL: Zicky Dice

33 is Ross Von Erich as both brothers represent the famous name in the ring at once.

They have a massive task ahead as Josef Samael comes in with his spike at #34!

He immediately jabs it into the forehead of Marshall! He nails Ross with a crisp neckbreaker for a two count. Samael has Ross in a camel clutch and drives the spike in his mouth!

Thankfully, #35 is Hammerstone and his agenda with CONTRA plays into Ross’ favor!

Sentai Death Squad members enter at #36 as CONTRA finds any way possible to get the advantage.

Kwang The Ninja enters at #37 and Philly eats it up as several competitors eat the nunchucks!

“The Man of 1,000 Deaths” King Muertes looks to get gold for Cesar Duran at #38.

Meanwhile, an ECW original’s chances come to a close as Kwang blue mists Meanie! Muertes nails Meanie with a Straight To Hell flatliner for the pinfall!

ELIMINATED VIA PINFALL: The Blue Meanie

“El Intocable” Gino Medina picked a great number at #39 and he wastes no time in trying to get pins.

It’s bad news for all involved because #40 is CONTRA’s Mads Krugger. He and Hammer immediately lock eyes with one another. Mads tosses Lance Anoa’i and KC Navarro out of the ring in order to get to Hammer.

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Lance Anoa’i

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: KC Navarro

Mads goes after Hammer harshly as Muertes shoulders Gino over the top rope!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Gino Medina

Muertes continues that streak with a Straight To Hell on Kwang!

ELIMINATED VIA PINFALL: Kwang

It takes both Von Erichs to eliminate Muertes and it gets down to The Von Erichs and Hammerstone.

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: King Muertes

The three men have to make an unlikely alliance to fend off all of CONTRA! Hammer hammers out one of the Sentai Death Squad members!

Samael immediately charges at Hammerstone with his spike, but he avoids the attack as both he and Marshall send Josef and the remaining Sentai Death Squad member over the top!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Sentai Death Squad

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Josef Samael

Marshall makes another statement by Claw slamming Ikuro Kwon on the apron for another elimination!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Ikuro Kwon

The Von Erichs turn their attention to Mads Krugger with some sharp kicks. Krugger grabs holds of both brothers’ throats before lariating them over the top.

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Marshall Von Erich

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Ross Von Erich

It’s not long before Hammer retaliates by eliminating both Daivari and Gotch!

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Daivari

ELIMINATED VIA RING OUT: Simon Gotch

It’s down to Krugger and Hammerstone and it’s well documented both men have extremely bad blood brewing between one other. This final fight for glory is hard-hitting. Philly is fully behind Hammer as he delivers shoulder thrusts in the corner, but Mads levels him down with a spinebuster.

He gives very hard shots in the corner to Hammerstone and the two meat castles trade shots. Krugger gets the better at that duel. He seeks a chokeslam, but Hammer powers free for a pump kick. Krugger catches him with a full nelson slam: 1-2-no!

Krugger wastes no time and chokeslams Hammer, but he kicks out at one and Hammer hulks his way up for some stiff shots! Krugger tries to maintain offense, but Hammer catches him with a corner enziguri. Krugger shows his resilience with a massive big boot. This allows Mads to pull the spike left from Samael from the corner to utilize. Luckily, Hammer scouts it and low blows Mads, making him drop it.

Mads has Hammer by the skull and shouts expletives his way. Hammer flips him the bird before jamming the spike into his foot, then to his gut and then to his shoulder! Big back body drop by Hammer. He turns and lariats Mads right out of the ring! “Your Boy Hammer” wins it!

WINNER of BATTLE RIOT III: Alexander Hammerstone

Hammer celebrates his very well-earned victory as the World Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu comes out to confront him, but Josef Samael holds The Samoan Werewolf back! Hammer goes round the ring to celebrate with the Philadelphia faithful! Anytime, anywhere, Hammerstone has his shot at MLW World Heavyweight gold!
