Fusion Recap: AKIRA Challenges RSP For National Openweight Gold

MLW.com

The deck is stacked against AKIRA as he challenges RSP for the National Openweight Title and we look ahead to Holiday Rush on December 24.

It’s the season finale of MLW Fusion and MSL is reeling from the “failure” that was WTF: One Shot. Tom Lawlor wants to hear none of it. He said all the amenities and perks of the Superstar Era are gone and now is the time to be a TITAN! Through his booze-infused depression, that motivates the “legitimate promoter.” He wants to plan a major takeover at Holiday Rush.

The main event feels that it could be put on ice as Akira was attacked before the show by Rickey Shane Page. Akira was set to face RSP in the main event for the National Openweight Title, and he doesn’t plan on changing it!

MATCH 1
Battle Royal

The ring is full of fighters in Philly, including representation from BOMAYE, SGC, Tony Deppen and his Dirty Bastard crew, and the aforementioned WTF Superstars, including the massive newcomer Joshua Bishop.

The big man is dominant in this one, as he uses power and size to suplex and toss people over the top. It gets down to five men: Tom Lawlor, Good Brother #3 (not Mance Warner), Mr. Thomas, Joshua Bishop and Matthew Justice.

GB #3 and Lawlor are duking it out on the apron and Bishop boot both off. He then tosses Mr. Thomas and it’s down to him and Matthew Justice. He pulls a page out of former MLW World Champion Mike Awesome and sends Justice out over the top and through a table to the outside!

WINNER: Joshua Bishop

A stretcher is brought out and the SGC fighter is put on it after the devastating elimination. The ruthless Bishop is shown as he takes a stomp on Justice crashing down the stretcher!

Someone else who can be ruthless is Jacob Fatu, the Samoan Werewolf wants a piece of one of his greatest rivals, Alex Hammerstone at MLW Holiday Rush!

MATCH 2
MLW World Featherweight Championship
Delmi Exo vs. Tiara James vs. Janai Kai (c) (with Salina de la Renta)

Janai Kai has been unstoppable as champion and both of her opponents know it. Both James and Delmi team up at times as they double-suplex Kai, but she crashes both into one another and control the match.

They happen to catch Kai with a Hart Foundation Hart Attack before putting the offense on one another. Delmi puts James in a Boston Crab. She however is too close to the ropes and de la Renta sprays something in the former champ’s face! Kai takes advantage while Delmi is down Kai hits a spinning kick to the mid-section of James. 1-2-3!

WINNER and STILL MLW World Featherweight Champion: Janai Kai

We have some breaking news as the Second Gear Crew will defend their Tag Team Gold against Alex Kane and Mr. Thomas at Holiday Rush on December 24!

We see Good Brother #3 and Manders readying themselves with a case of beer and holiday hats. GB #3 wishes everybody a Merry Christmas ahead of Holiday Rush.

We see the World Champ and he states that the mission was submission at One Shot and the mission was accomplished against Matt Cardona. Now he and Mr. Thomas are gonna make sure SGC get that work!

MATCH 3
Tony Deppen vs. Nolo Kitano

Tony Deppen is free from suspension and one of MLW’s greatest pound-for-pound fighter goes up against the speed of Nolo and Deppen finds himself with a tope from Kitano! Deppen shows his veteran savvt and catches Nolo with a sit-out powerbomb! He takes the time to puts Kitano’s headband on.

As expected, there’s plenty of knee strikes and kicks from both men, but Kitano fires back at Deppen with his own power arsenal. However, Deppen goes back to the well and hits a running knee to the back of the head. It’s good for the win.

WINNER: Tony Deppen

Post-fight, he gets on the mic and calls his original target Kevin Blackwood a crybaby. That brings Blackwood out, but he’s stopped on the entryway as Deppen crews taunts him from afar!

Someone who wants revenge is Love, Doug after he was sabotaged by Brett Ryan Gosselin. Now he’ll have his chance a Kings of Colosseum in a Love Is Blind(fold) match!

Found footage is seen of The Calling and Rickey Shane Page. He makes it known that Akira will atone for his transgressions tonight.

Salina is confronted by Ichiban who wants another shot at Rocky Romero. Salina says to get to Rocky, Ichiban has to get through her. He has to have a match against her at Holiday Rush! The match is on!

MATCH 4
Kevin Blackwood vs. TJ Crawford

Finally, Blackwood is back in a MLW ring as he and Crawford clash with their similar and aggressive styles, but the wild card is at ringside in Griffin McCoy who takes liberties at making himself a factor in the fight until the referee ejects him from ringside! It swiftly pays off as Blackwood hits a double stomp to Crawford’s back from up top and he gets the pinfall win! Some retribution is served!

WINNER: Kevin Blackwood

Post match, Deppen, always the opportunist,  leaves commentary and side swipes Blackwood at ringside!

We see Hammerstone. The WTF Superstar lays it all on the line as he says the fans turned their back on him, a great guy with the looks, talent and gold in favor of a criminal like Fatu. Now he’s gonna make himself 3-0 against the Samoan Werewolf at Holiday Rush. Get ready for FATU vs. HAMMER III!

It’s main event time.

MAIN EVENT
MLW National Openweight Championship
Akira vs. Rickey Shane Page (c)

Akira wastes no time and begins his attack on his former tag partner. Akira is all bandaged up and RSP is swift to take advantage of those. Akira aims to create bloodshed with a foreign blade, but RSP hits him with a back elbow and snaps him down with a Raven Effect DDT. He gets the victory in a lopsided fight.

WINNER and STILL MLW National Opeweight Champion: Rickey Shane Page

Post-fight, The Calling continue their ambush on Akira as they hold him against the ropes and RSP has harsh words for Akira before he bloodies him up and leaves him laying!
