Fusion Recap – June 8, 2019

MLW.com

The Dynasty vs. Hart Foundation feud reached another level this week on #MLWFusion. Plus, we found out what Salina de la Renta has in store for next week’s show, when she once again serves as Executive Producer. Spoiler alert … Mance Warner and Sami Callihan aren’t happy about it.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. defeated MJF
Smith came to the ring with nobody at his side, while MJF had already made his way to the squared circle with both of his Dynasty partners, along with the returning Aria Blake.

The numbers disparity would be a big key to much of this matchup. Time after time, MJF would distract the referee while Alex Hammerstone or Richard Holliday (or both) would attack Smith. Early in the match, these attacks focused on the right leg of the Hart Foundation powerhouse.

Later in the match, the tactic changed to Holliday and Hammerstone serving as the distraction, allowing MJF to choke Smith.

Finally, Brian Pillman Jr. and Teddy Hart had seen enough and came out to even the numbers. With the distractions and dirty tactics eliminated, Smith was able to score a running powerslam to pick up a pinfall victory.

Salina Forces Warner, Callihan Into a Loser Leaves MLW Match
Through shrewd negotiation and the ratings success of her last stint as executive producer, Salina de la Renta was granted another crack at running FUSION next week.

This week, we learned what her main event would be. She pitted two of Promociones Dorado’s fiercest enemies against one another and even managed to sign the match with a Loser Leaves MLW stipulation.

Next week, Mance Warner will face off with Sami Callihan in a Falls Count Anywhere match that will end with one of them leaving MLW for good.

CONTRA Continued to Run Amok
During our main event, news of some sort of backstage commotion reached the announce table. Rich Bochinni and Jim Cornette shared that information and promised we’d get cameras back there.

Just as the show was about to go off the air, our cameras caught all three members of CONTRA Unit — Simon Gotch, Josef Samael and Jacob Fatu — laying waste to wrestlers and backstage personnel alike. Gotch repeatedly drove a knee into a man’s face, while Fatu was standing over the bloodied body of Ariel Dominguez. Then, Samael tossed a fireball at our camera man and our broadcast went off the air.

Kings of Colosseum Main Event Announced
Our own Tim Barr brought us the first Kings of Colosseum Control Center and it contained big news. Wold Heavyweight Champion “Filthy” Tom Lawlor will defend his title against CONTRA Unit’s Jacob Fatu Saturday, July 6 in Chicago.

Tickets for this event are available at MLWTickets.com.

Richard Holliday defeated Kotto Brazil
While the night didn’t end well for The Dynasty, Holliday got things started on this week’s show with a victory for his group.

Holliday used a size and power advantage to defeat Kotto Brazil, who has apparently healed from his eye injuries. Brazil removed the eye patch that he’s been wearing for months on his way to the ring and competed without it.

The extra eyesight didn’t necessarily help the Haitian Sensation, as Most Marketable scored the victory with a gut-wrench powerbomb.

Air Wolf defeated Ace Austin
The 19-year-old rookie sensation Air Wolf continued his hot streak against one of the other great young middleweights in Major League Wrestling. Air Wolf pulled off one of the most shocking upsets in MLW history recently, scoring a singles victory over Rey Fenix.

He followed that up with a hard-fought win over Ace Austin on this week’s FUSION. The youngster most certainly increased his rank and value within the middleweight division with this important victory.

Lawlor Calls Out CONTRA, Calls in Reinforcements
Following the news that Lawlor will defend his World Title vs. Fatu, the champion had some choice words for CONTRA and announced that he had some backup moving forward, considering Gotch, Fatu and Samael tend to like to gang up and employ sneak attacks.

“You think I haven’t been beaten up before? You think I haven’t been battered and bloodied? These are all things I signed up for,” Lawlor said. “One thing I didn’t sign up for was being stabbed in the back by you guys every time I see you.

“So, what am i going to do? What is Filthy Tom Lawlor going to do to clean this place up?” he continued. “I’m going to find somebody … and I have … that can take you guys out, because they have something you will never have. That is integrity, respect and brotherhood. I found some cowboys that Filthy Tom Lawlor can trust. I found the Von Erichs.”
