Referees under review; Donaghy threatens lawsuits

Following allegations involving corruption surrounding the Caribbean Strap Match, Major League Wrestling and athletic commissions are undergoing a review of referees.

MLW.com has been told this includes examining who assigns referees to individual matches as well as the vetting process that goes into licensing referees.

“In light of the Tim Donaghy situation, we want to do a thorough review with the governing bodies that license referees,” said one anonymous league source. “The integrity of our matches is paramount. We can’t have this happen again.”

In the meantime, Donaghy is rumored to be lawyering up and threatening a defamation lawsuit against several websites for “damaging his sterling reputation as a referee in the sports world.”
